Disc Golf at New Quarter Park!
Updated: Dec 11, 2024
No, it’s not a silly game at all, and here’s why:
1. You’re outdoors—not sitting on the couch snacking on bonbons.
2. Courses typically range from 4,500 feet for beginners to 10,000 feet for professionals, making it easy to hit your 10,000 daily steps.
3. Walking through the trees and hills of the course is incredibly peaceful and relaxing.
4. It’s a great way to spend quality time with friends, enjoying the beauty of nature together.
5. Let’s be honest—it’s way more fun than just going for a boring walk!
Like traditional golf, disc golf helps melt away stress by immersing you in nature. It’s an incredibly calming and enjoyable activity.
On Sunday (12/01/24), Bob, Jola, Jill, and I played a round. It was Jola and Jill's first time, my second, and Bob—well, he’s been playing on and off for about a year.
The game itself follows the same basic principles as golf: lowest score wins. But instead of hitting a ball into a hole, you’re throwing a disc into a basket outfitted with hanging chains.
Having the right discs really makes a difference. There are usually three types: a driver for long distances, a mid-range disc for more controlled throws around obstacles, and a putter for those final precise shots. I picked up a starter set on Amazon and added a couple of discs from the New Quarter Park office.
It may seem like a simple sport, but it’s surprisingly engaging. The friendly banter with other players is a blast, and being out in the fresh air with friends makes it even better. Plus, you can play year-round—even in winter. Once you get moving, the chill fades, and it becomes a perfect way to stay active and connected. What’s not to love?
