When it rains, it usually pours. (*Update*)

Updated: Nov 30

During my fourth game of pickleball this morning I started to see streamers, or "floaters" as they call them in my left eye. This has happened to me in the past (five years ago), so I instantly recognized them. It's like white dots that have tails behind them and they are "floating" around in your vision. Mine started on the left side of my left eye and were headed towards the center of my vision.

I immediately stopped the game and told my friends what was going on. They all were so worried for me. It's nice when people care for you that much that they will do anything to help you. Right then and there. After I stopped moving around on the PB floor the floaters stopped.

I contacted my local Ophthalmologist office and have an appointment set for 12:40 today.

My laser eye-surgery was performed in Reno Nevada five years ago. It.Was.Not.A.Fun.Experience.To.Go.Through... It was very painful, going through the surgery with no anesthesia on-board. You have to hold completely still, and sort of, stop breathing while they shoot the laser-beam into your eye. The laser is dialed into a specific point in space so that it cauterizes the under-lying layers of the eyeball and the retina together. The biggest thing they need to prevent is keeping the tear(s) away from the section of the eye where most of the focusing of your eyesight happens. Mostly in the center of the back-wall of the eye. If the retina detaches from that section it can cause permanent damage to your eyesight. They would only be able to use the laser "around" the center and not "in" the center. That would damage the eyesight-cells for good and I would be blind in that eye.

Frak. It's always sompin...

Update: My doctor checked out my eye and confirmed that while there's a tear, it's positioned in a way that shouldn't cause any future problems. It's located near the site of the laser treatment I had for a retinal tear five years ago, and at the outer edge of the retina, so he believes I'm in the clear. He gave both eyes a thorough exam and gave me a clean bill of health otherwise! I feel like I dodged a bullet this time. The rain cleared, the sun came out, the birds started singing, and all felt right with the world again! Except, maybe the drive home. That was tricky. They dilated my eyes so much I could barely see to drive home... What's that in the road... Squirrel!

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is not a picture of my tear(s) that happened in my left eye. My tear(s) were on the left side-middle section only. I drew in the red rectangle to describe what my tear looked like.
