Fear Not! This bad Boy will get reworked!

One of the great things about working with oil paints is that you can always scrape off what doesn’t work and try again, or layer new paint on top to bring out the depth of the underlying layer. Though it takes about a month for the paint to fully cure, the payoff is worth it. Right now, I have a solid 24 hours to keep tweaking the current layer.

Today’s work isn’t perfect—some issues with color dynamics and presentation—but that’s okay. The olive tree will evolve as I keep working on it. Once the whole canvas is covered, I’ll let it rest for a month, assess what needs refining, and then dive back in. Don’t worry, the tree trunks are still in the “meh” phase, but they’ll come together.

Now, I’m really excited to start painting the golden-yellow grasses in the foreground! It’s my favorite part of the piece!
