Making the Switch: Why I'm Reimagining My Studio Setup

Ever look at your gear collection and think: What is all this stuff, anyway? 😎

The New Studio Vision

I'm seriously considering a total overhaul - out with the old, in with the streamlined! At the heart of this plan:

  • Genelec 8040B or 8050B studio monitors: These are some of the finest powered monitors out there, trusted by top studios for critical listening and mixing. (And if you’ve ever peeked at their prices, you know they’re no joke - but this is a family-friendly blog, so I’ll spare you the sticker shock!)

  • Line-6 Stadium XL modeler: The idea: ditch the pile of heavy gear and just rely on this versatile modeler, paired with the Genelecs for both recording and practice at home.

If the Line-6 Stadium XL wins me over, my live rig would be as simple as it gets:

  • Plug in the modeler

  • Use in-ear monitors

  • Send the signal to the PANo monster cabinets, no lugging amp heads, no tangle of cables - just fast setup and far fewer things that can go wrong on stage. For added peace of mind, I’d pick up a second pedal-free Stadium unit as a backup, ready to go in case my main "XL" ever misbehaves.

Ready to Let Go: Great Gear Up for Grabs!

Got a friend looking for pro-level equipment? I’m offloading some amazing pieces, and here’s what’s on offer:

  • Suhr/Pete Thorn Signature 100-watt Plexi amp & 2x12 cabinet (creme-back Celestion speakers, Serial #00017!)

  • Marshall 1960A open-back 4x12 cabinet with 1990 English-made V30 Celestions

  • Boss MK-II 5/50/100 watt amp head

  • Kemper Toaster V1, non-amp modeler

  • Fender Tone Master Pro multi-effects guitar workstation

  • Pair of Fender Tone Master FR-10 speaker cabinets

Combined, that’s over 300 pounds of gear. My back (and my stairs) are more than ready for the change!

If you or someone you know is hunting for any of the above, drop me a note! I want to see this excellent equipment go to a good home - while I make room for a lighter, simpler, and just as powerful future in my studio.

Here are some pictures of the new gear:
